This election is bringing out the nastiest sides in people. It’s disturbing and also a little scary. Every time I’m driving and I see a ‘Obama/Biden’ sticker, I want to ram the offending car. And I know that if I had a McCain/Palin sticker (I don’t because I live in Austin, Texas) they would want to do the same to me. This election sucks not only because it’s completely dishonest and we have a total moron running, but because it’s dividing the country more than ever. I see hate, literal hate, spewing out when people talk about politics. I avoid the political conversations entirely because people can’t be nice about the subject anymore. They can’t keep a cool head and they can’t keep their offensive words and stereotypes to themselves. Every Democrat is a “stupid rich hippie who drives a Prius and hate the troops.” Every Republican is a “stupid, gun-toting, bitter, religious nut with ten kids.” And it isn’t true AT ALL. I know intelligent people from both sides yet I persist in believing the Democrat stereotype because this election makes me so angry. And I know many on the left who feel the same way. The election of 2008 is dividing the American people more than ever and it is a scary, scary time for all of us, blue or red.
The saddest thing about all of this is the fact that the Democrat candidate is persisting in believing those stereotypes. After all, he was the one who condemned the Republicans in Pennsylvania as “bitter, and clinging to their guns and religion.” Really, now. Who wants to elect a man like that? I don’t! I don’t want a man who looks down and condescends to me because I refuse to believe in his mantra that guns are bad and religion is even worse. I don’t claim him as my god and he seems to resent it. And I hate it. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is a reason why I am NOT voting for Barack Obama in 2008.
